Guild Guide

Hello and welcome to the Guild! Here writers and critiques like you gather to trade ideas, tips, and talk about the hottest books. There are a few rules I'd like you to observe though:

#1 The most important rule of the Guild: Do not flame others on their work. If you don't like it don't comment it's as simple as that. Be aware that you only get one warning. After the second offense you will be removed or blocked from this group.

#2 Please refrain from submitting anything too graphic without some sort of warning. Respect the fact that not everyone approves of the same views as you do.

#3 Do not ask to become an admin. You'll be invited upon another admin's suggestion or if you show interest in a position.

#4 If you wish to advertise a group don't hound members to join your group. Simply ask an admin if you can leave an ad. Please do not spam the homepage.

#5 If you have a conflict with another member be mature about it and resolve it peacefully. If you believe it will get out of hand ask one of the admins for help.

#6 In any work if you use anything that isn't yours give credit. Theft of any kind is not allowed nor will it be tolerated

#7 Please make formal critiques. That means no abbreviations and preferably good grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation.

#8 Be insightful when writing a critique. Do not write simple one sentenced comments such as "Good job!" or "Well done!". A critique is designed to help a writer. Praise is good, but if you have suggestions throw them into the reply.

#9 Please do not submit anything to the featured folder. An admin will decide on what goes into the featured folder. If you think there is a piece of literature should be in this folder tell an admin. You only get five suggestions a month to this folder.

     'Any coin's a coin.'

     The pouch jingled as Draven shook it. It jingled with the voice of well-earned congratulations, but the voice was a whisper in a large hall. Draven shook the pouch again and this time its jingle sounded more like a rattle. Hollow, more so than an empty promise. He weighed the earnings in one hand. Too much pouch, not enough coin. The purse slumped in defeat.

     'But is it enough coin?'

     'So, it's come to this?'

    Draven stared down his opponent. The axe was heavy in his grip, knuckled white. Circling to the left, boots crunching on the forest floor, his breath came even and steady. He circled back to the right, sizing, gauging. Hefting the handle high, blade glinting in the sun, Draven's muscles coiled.

    'I've traded my old enemies for just this one...'

    The axe thundered home.

    '...I miss the old ones.'

    Crunching the head back and forth, Draven wrenched the axe free. Even as the spray caught him in the face he swung the axe again.

     'I never meant to let you down.'

     Draven lifted a stray curl of his wife's hair from her face. She smiled in her sleep as if knowing he was there. As silently as he could, he leant over the bed and kissed her softly on the cheek.

     'I've tried everything.'

     Rising slowly, as quietly as he could manage on the wooden floorboards, Draven retreated from the bed. By the fractured light from the shutters he made for the bedroom door. The walls of the house were thin and he heard a creak from the neighbouring room.

  Barok was next and he rushed to my side, his bow hanging on his shoulders, looking uneasily around him though he wouldn't be able to see the shifting shadows surrounding the camp.

My DarlingEarly in my life there were ups and downs even though they were mostly downs I was always trying to be happy. Each day went by so slowly and there was not much to do with my time since I was always at home. Usually I'd just spend my day staring at the ceiling and waiting for the day to end. I wasted so much time not doing anything that even now not even at the mid point of my life, I regret it. I remember so much of the dull and colorless days of the past. How boring life was.

No.AMBER is a 17-year-old high school student. She dresses plainly, in jeans and a T-shirt, maybe a flannel button-up or a hoodie over top. She doesn't wear make up, and her hair is simply tied back, or down. As the monologue goes on, it becomes apparent that she won't be able to shrug this off, and the sarcastic, biting anger turns more towards sadness.

I’m not trying to be a bitch, but understand that there are so many unfortunate outcomes for you, and anyway, I just won’t fall for any of your shit.

      What horrible deeds have been done with the Virgin Mary standing in the lawn?  Every street, every house, every thing in this neighborhood is splashed with milky moonlight.  Thousands of Virgin Mary statues stand silently, and peacefully in the dark just beyond the hazy shadows. Evil deeds shall be done.  No matter what anyone believes or doesn't believe.  
    Its best to understand that before you die.  Or maybe as you die.  The agony between life and death put a lot of things in order for me.  Things like school, and my mom's work, they seemed so petty and far away.  The humming of a caring person was held much closer to my heart. -In Awe- a short story by *PsychoNeko08

Soft rays of morning light filter through the breaks in the drawn shades, splashing their warm touch unto the ruffled sheets. Ever so slowly the warm fingers work their way up the sheets onto the faces of the pair that laid in peaceful slumber, a child held protectively between them. Blue eyes open, squinting at the morning light. Something between a growl and a groan rolls in the male's chest as he shifts underneath the pale light, turning his face aside to avoid the brightness.

The Tale of the Blue Eyed BoyA blue eyed boy and a green eyed girl. Who would have thought they'd end up entangled in the fated red string. For at first their hearts scorned one another. But all it took was one quiet. A night where the green eyed girl laid weeping on her bed of hay. The boy had snuck into her cell, curious at the noise. For you see, the boy had never heard such soft sounds from the girl before. Only the sound of hatred and scorn as they each imagined a new way to hurt the other. For You...Thump...Thump Blood coated the figure a sickly crimson as he struggled to kept himself steady. Crimson life dripped from his fangs, falling into the already massive pool of his own blood beneath him. His eyes were dilated in fear as his eyes swept over the corpse strewn floor. Thump...Thump...'What have I done?' His breaths were shallow and ragged. His own life streamed from the tip of the blade that pierced his abdomen. New Guild Features

Hey members! Sorry for the inactivity here on the guild, but I'm back and I've got a couple of new features I'd like to share with you all.

First off, I'm sure you've all seen that lonely little folder labeled Book chats right? Honestly I don't even know what it's doing there so I've come up with a solution. The point of the Book Chat folder was to provide a place for people to chat about new books, upcoming book, and so on. So to solve that empty folder problem I'd like to propose to you all the idea of a Book Chat forum. That opens up an admin position for those of you who'd like to become an admin.

Secondly, I'd like the Guild to start a Beta program. For those of you that don't know, a beta is just another name for an editor. Really there's not a huge difference between a Beta's job and an editor's job. This system would work much like Peer editing between the writer and the beta. Now you don't have to advertise all your information here on the Guild, you could ask another member by note. And again this also opens up an admin position to handle the Beat system.

Lastly and most importantly, Monthly Features. I'm sure this would benefit not only the Guild, by advertising a variety of literature, but also the members seeing as this is your work being featured. Every month admins would get together and decide the three pieces of literature to showcase as the Monthly Features. Of course you can opt out of this if you truly wanted to, but everyone is going to be involved in the Monthly Feature so your work might just show up on a month.

Well that's about all the new features I can come up with now. I'd love to hear from you guys, what you thought of the ideas. None of these can happen if there's no feedback because these really are for all you members.

Hmm, that's an excellent question. I think a writer is someone who writes down their own ideas for a specific purpose. Whether that be for discussion or entertainment, that depends on the person. Hope that answers your question

Hey, I'm new to DeviantArt, and kind of new to writing. I used to always write for fun but only just recently started getting serious about it. I don't really have any finished works yet :/ and am mostly looking for a place to get advice and critiques and what not as I start writing more things.

If anyone would be interested, my friend ~epochwolf recently started a literature website called singleforest.com. It's kinda like dA, but exclusively for writers (sans poetry). I'll caution everyone that, for now, only English submissions are allowed. There aren't any truly bilingual mods yet. ^^;

I don't mean to spam, but how else will writers know about this website?
